Reflections on Mother's Day

I love Mothers Day,

Not because of what I get, but because I survived and am still glad to have been and still am a Mother.

I get to reflect on memories of my own Mother and feel and express apprecation to her for all she was and still is to me.

I read a magazine article once that asked a group of women, if they had to do it over again, would they have chosen to be a mother and it was sad to see how many would have opted out. How sad.

Not me, I would do it over again in a heart beat.!!!!

I was privileged to have been the Mother to 8 extraordinary individuals. Each one different and unique and yet all with things in common.

I get to reflect on my role as a mother, to wince at my mistakes, to laugh at the many good times, to sorrow over sad times and things I couldn't fix or make go away and the hope that overall I hadn't done a bad joy, that my children would grow up to be good people and still like me.

How blessed I was and still am.

I marvel at how quickly the roles change.

I am still a Mother but not needed in the same way.
We are no longer adult and child, but adult and adult.
I enjoy my children and have joy in them and in our role as adults.
Now they are teaching me and helping me.
I love Mother's Day.
It has been and still is great to be a Mother.

A lady in the checkout stand was commenting on the kids and said how happy my mom must be to have such beautiful grandkids. I mentioned that you had 18 equally beautiful grandkids and her jaw dropped. She said she didn't have any grandkids but had 2 kids. She said the great thing about being a mom is that you are ALWAYS a mom, no matter what. I told her that was so true. That even though I am 30 yrs old with kids of my own that I still call my mom for advice and sometimes a rescue.

Thanks for always being there for me. I am glad I don't have to do it without you.

thanks daughter, it is always a compliment to have your children feel they can call on you. Each of you are doing wonderful jobs with your families. I am proud of you all and appreciate being able to help out when I can and deeply appreciate the help that is given in return when asked for. I am proud of the great mothers and dads you have each become along with your spouces. You are all raising great children that I love and enjoy. The only thing equal to being a Mother is being a Grandmother.

I can relate to the survived part. I am so grateful for distance and time. It seems like all the mistakes I made are somehow being forgotten by my Adult children and now they remember the good. Whew! What a blessing.
